CHHS Beta Club

The Beta Club is an academic service organization that encourages students to contribute time serving their community. The Beta Club promotes character, develops leadership skills, encourages service involvement, recognizes achievement, and provides technological advantages to students in grades 10 - 12.

All Beta Club members are required to maintain a 90.0 (no rounding) cumulative GPA and earn a certain number of service points each year. Sophomore students who meet these requirements received an invitation to join in their homerooms on Monday, August 26, 2005. Returning junior and senior members also received information for the new school year. Invitations are only sent out to sophomore members, but junior and senior members who have achieved a 90.0 average and wish to join may pick up an application in Room 1.026.

Last year, Beta students volunteered at Atlanta Food Bank, played with children at Sheltering Arms, made Easter baskets for underprivileged children, helped senior citizens with crafts at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home, and participated in park clean-ups. This is only a sample of the many activities in which Beta members were involved.

The Beta Club meets each month usually on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Commons. Beta members also enjoyed playing games, making ice cream sundaes, writing our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and collecting items for the Gwinnett Humane Society at our monthly meetings. Students represented CHHS at the State Beta Club Convention in Atlanta in January.

The sponsors are Mrs. Suzan Pardue, 3.117, Mrs. Susan Thompson, and Ms. Mary Bruce. Co-Sponsors are Mrs. Sarah Nguyen and Mrs. Amy Crane.
